Mrs. Stedman, 99, of Davidson, NC, formerly of Lynchburg, VA, died Sunday, July 24, 2011, at The Pinesat Davidson. Born September 11, 1911, in Lincoln County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Coleman Edmund and Lucy McCorkle Bisanar. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Woollen Stedman. Mrs. Stedman attended Appalachian State Teachers College and graduated from the School of Nursing at Charlotte Sanatorium/Memorial Hospital (today Carolina Medical Center). She enjoyed a successful career as a Registered Nurse both prior to her childrens birth and later when they went off to college. She was a member of Rivermont Presbyterian Church in Lynchburg, VA. In 1988 when The Pines opened she moved from Lynchburg to Davidson to be nearer her daughter. She made many new friends at The Pines and enjoyed gardening, reading, and water exercise. She was a loving mother, wife, and friend who always thought of others before herself. Marjorie is survived by her son, David Woollen Stedman and his wife, Cathy, of Damascus, Arkansas; her daughter, Nancy Clendenin Sutton of Charlotte, NC; one sister, Rose B. Bowden of Gastonia, NC.; and numerous extended family. A memorial service will be conducted 11:00 am Thursday, July 28 in Lingle Chapel, Davidson College Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Bill Tiemann and the Rev. Dr. John Kuykendall officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 pm in the Living room of The Pines. Burial will be private at Forest Lawn West Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff of The Pines and especially those in the health care wing and Hospice who provided such excellent care for Mrs. Stedman during the last month.
