Marianne Helen Scott

Marianne Helen Scott, 89, of Iron Station, NC passed away peacefully at the Carolina Caring Hospice House in Newton, NC on Monday, August 1, 2022, with her only child, Jennifer Kontje at her side.

Marianne was born in South Bend, Indiana on February 16, 1933, to the late Roger Fenska and Florence Lange Fenska. Along with her parents, Marianne is preceded in death by her lifelong love and husband, John Henry Scott, also from South Bend, Indiana who passed away at 83 on March 3, 2017, and her beloved son-in-law, James Thomas Kontje, Jr, 60, who passed away unexpectedly on February 10, 2022. James "Jimmy” Kontje was more like a son to Marianne and his death affected her deeply. Also preceding Marianne in death is her step-brother, Richard “Dick” Fenska.

She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Elizabeth Kontje of Iron Station, NC, her sister, Joan Stancati of South Bend, Indiana, and her much loved nieces and nephews scattered around the country.

Marianne loved the outdoors and was never happier than when she had her hands in the dirt planting flowers or clearing brush with John at their cabin in the North Carolina mountains. She also loved birds and could pretty much identify every bird by its song. The only thing Marianne loved more than the outdoors was her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She spent many hours reading her devotionals and praying each day.

Marianne, John, and Jennifer spent many years enjoying times together at Coquina Beach in Bradenton, Florida. It was both Marianne’s and John’s wish for their ashes to be mixed together and spread at Coquina Beach by their daughter Jennifer.
