Maria Leonilde Tavares

Maria Leonilde Tavares, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away June 20,2024, in Huntersville, NC. She was born on May18, 1935, in San Miguel, Portugal, to Anthony and Maria Resendes Ponte.

Maria led a fulfilling life characterized by her generous spirit and love for her family. She cherished spending time with her loved ones and creating lasting memories together. Maria found joy in the simple things in life, it was watching television programs like Wheel of Fortune, exploring new destinations during travels and cruises, or indulging in the beauty of Portuguese music and festivals.

One of Maria's proudest accomplishments was honoring her Portuguese heritage. She took great pride in preserving her roots and passing down traditions to future generations.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Louis Tavares and her daughter Lisa Amadeo. 

Maria is survived by her daughter Laurie (David) Fay, as well as five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren who meant the world to her. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members who were touched by her kindness and warmth.

The funeral service to celebrate Maria's life will be held at St. Mark Catholic Church in Huntersville on June 28, 2024, followed by a burial at Northlake Memorial Gardens. Her legacy of love and devotion will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.
