Margaret Lenora Puckett Merritt

Margaret Lenora Puckett Merritt, 93, of Charlotte, NC, passed away Friday, October 19,2018.

She was born June 4, 1925 to Zada Hucks Puckett and Reece Alexander Puckett in Charlotte, North Carolina. ? In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Jesse Merritt, Sr., her sister Elizabeth Puckett Goodrum, and her brother, Wesley Puckett.

Margaret is survived by her son, Paul Jesse Merritt, daughter-in-law, Phyllis, 2 grandchildren: Jesse and Cassie, her sister, Peggy Puckett, her sister-in-law, Helen Puckett, and many nieces and nephews.

Despite her many childhood challenges, Margaret graduated from Huntersville High School, valedictorian of the class of 1944. She went to Carolina Business School of Charlotte where she met her “Dear Paul.” In 1949, she married “the love of her life” and they were together for 64 years until his death in 2013. Margaret was a lifetime member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, Church Historian, Finance Committee Secretary and served in various other roles with the United Methodist Women.

Margaret loved to bake and had quite the sweet tooth. Many were privileged to share her love in the form of “fresh coconut cake at Christmas,” chocolate chip cookies, sending cards like get well, thinking about you, or birthdays (she always remembered). Her love was evident wherever she went. She should have been “an English teacher.” Margaret was known to correct your English grammar. This was very evident at the Huntersville Oaks during mealtime in the dining room. Proper etiquette was always in the forefront of her mind, especially men not wearing hats in the dining room. Margaret worked in the insurance industry over 40+ years ending her career at Selective Insurance. She retired and then helped her husband open and operate Merritt Graphics.

Thank you to Huntersville Oaks and Hospice of Cabarrus County for the love and care shown to Margaret during the last five years. Special thanks to Sannye and Audrey for their loving care.

Family will receive friends at 1 o’clock on Thursday, October 25, 2018. Services/internment will be held at 2 o’clock at Trinity United Methodist Church facilitated by Rev.Wade Ogle and Rev. Jimmy Howard.
