Margaret Thorpe Harmon

June 29, 1917 — September 8, 2017

Margaret Thorpe Harmon of Cornelius, NC, passed away Friday, September 8, 2017 at Novant Presbyterian Hospital in Huntersville. She had recently celebrated her 100th birthday.

Margaret was born in Tampa, Fl. on June 29, 1917. She was married to Tom Harmon from 1941 until his death in 1988.   At the age of 88, she married Ralph Williams, who passed away after 8 years of marriage.

As a young girl, Margaret lived in Birmingham, Al, where she attended Massey Business College. She met Tom Harmon while in Birmingham. After Margaret and Tom married, they moved to New Orleans and later to Chattanooga before finally settling in North Carolina.  She was a resident of Cornelius, NC for more than 50 years.

Margaret was a devout Christian, and was a founding member of Lake Norman Baptist Church.   She held many leadership rolls both at Lake Norman Baptist and her current church, First Baptist Church of Cornelius.  As well as church activities, she loved to travel, visit with friends and play her favorite card game, Skip-Bo. She also found great comfort sitting on her porch on Lake Norman, but her greatest joy came from spending time with her family.

Margaret is survived by her two sons, Tommy Harmon of Charlotte and Jack Harmon and his wife Laveeta of Cornelius, 3 granddaughters, and 8 great grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at Raymer- Kepner Funeral Home in Huntersville, NC.   Visitation will be held Saturday, September 16th from 10:00 am to 11:30 am with the funeral service immediately following.   She will be interred at Mt Zion Cemetery in Cornelius following the service.

Memorial donations can be made to First Baptist Church of Cornelius, P.O. Box 100, Cornelius, NC 28031. Friends may offer condolences to the family at www.raymerfh.com.
