Mabel Muriel Eddins Pugh, 81, of Concord, passed away on December 21, 2011. The daughter of the late John Samuel and Effie Eliza Eddins, she attended the Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in Winston-Salem, NC and received a BSN and subsequently a MPH from UNC Chapel Hill. After a long career, she retired in 1998 as Director of Psychiatric Services at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia. In the 1970s, she was one of the founders of the Albemarle Mental Health Center in Elizabeth City, just one expression of her lifelong commitment to the care and dignity of psychiatric patients. She is survived by her three daughters, Catherine Isobe (John Wirenius), Allison Hearn (Brad) and Stephanie Pugh, as well as her grandchildren, Bradford, Emma and Sophie Hearn. She is also survived by her sisters Ann Shankle, Beth Johnson, and Elizabeth Shelton (Bill), her brothers Gerald Eddins (Gail), and Vernon Eddins ,and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three siblings in childhood, and by her brothers Walter Eddins, J.T. Eddins and Bud Eddins, in adulthood. Family and friends are being received today at 10:00 am, followed by a funeral service, both at Davidson United Methodist Church in Davidson.
