Lynn Gibson Brown Dausman

October 1, 1934 — June 22, 2015

Lynn was born in Dayton Ohio on October 1,1934 and died peacefully in the early morning of June 22. It was the end of an extraordinary life. She was one of the first people to be cured of Hodgkin's Lymphoma in the mid-1960's. Treated by pioneering oncologists at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C., her cancer cure came with serious surgical and radiation after-effects that she proudly shrugged off, charging through fifty-some bonus years of life, lived to the fullest. Returning to college mid-life, Lynn earned a Masters Degree in Education with an emphasis on early childhood development. Children were her greatest love. She was Headmaster at a preschool for most of her career and after retiring, devoted herself to her four grandchildren for the rest of her life. She was their mentor in music, literature and creativity. Lynn was also an intrepid sailor. She was her husband, George's, fearless crew member, sailing in the Chesapeake Bay and Carribean. In her latter years, Lynn immersed herself in writing and poetry groups. She was privileged to have helped publish a collection of poems in the book entitled "Tuesdays Child" and a second anthology of poems "Above the Fold," coauthored by her dear North Carolina friends. She also attended book clubs and a memoir group in her neighborhood. She is survived by an enormous circle of lifelong friends as well as newer friends in Davidson. Family survivors are her beloved brother and sister-in-law Peter and Cynthia Brown of Centerville, Ohio, her niece Christine Brown of Los Angeles, nephew Pete Brown of Wilmington Ohio, Daughter and son-in-law Amy and John Schaaf of Davidson, as well as her four grandchildren, George, Genevieve and her husband Josh, Pierce, and Mark and her regal feline companion, General Wolfe. A celebration of her life to include poetry, music, love and laughter, will be held at Amy and John's home on the evening of July 18. Lynn and the family wish to thank the amazingly loving staff of the Serenity House of Huntersville and the Carolina Comfort Coalition for the incredible care she received during her final days.
