Lucille Rupard Mills

Lucille Rupard Mills was born on March 25, 1935, on the family farm in Statesville, NC. Her parents were Doctor Raymond Rupard and Claudia Cass Rupard, and she had one older sister, Corene. Lucille grew up working in the fields with her family raising tobacco. She graduated in 1953 from Union Grove High School and followed her sister Corene to Charlotte to attended King’s Business College. She graduated in 1954 and then worked at Kings College for 13 years as a teacher assistant in Business Machines and Typing and in the college office. She met her late husband Burwell Mills in typing class at Kings. She and Burwell married on June 8, 1957 at her home church in Statesville.

In 1962 they built a house on Hambright Road in Huntersville, NC where they raised their three children.  Lucille was a member of Huntersville First Baptist Church since 1958 where she served as Children’s Bible Teacher, Secretary of Woman’s Missionary Union, Chairperson of Baptist Women’s Group and Secretary of Bible School. In 1977 Lucille became secretary at First Baptist Church and retired in 2000 after 23 years of service. 

Lucille was a very sweet and kind soul, that was always cheerful, had a song in her heart, and shared the love of Christ with everyone she met.  Lucille went to her heavenly home on November 21, 2022 and is survived by her children Claudette Mills Newman (Vic), Randy Mills, and Jeff Mills (Lori), and her 6 granddaughters Sharon Wofford (Nick), Kelly Johnson (Jason), Reilly, Jorie, Gracyn and Loren.  Other special family members include niece Sylvia Kelly (Mike), Brother-in-Law Bob Mills (Phyllis), niece Tanna Konecny, nephews David Mills and Josh Mills and their families.

A visitation will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home followed by funeral service at 2:00pm. Burial will be at First Baptist Church Cemetery in Huntersville, NC.
