Louise Chaytor Manning Blalock Chaytor Blalock, age 88, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2014 at Olde Knox Commons in Huntersville, NC. Born in Lynchburg, VA, she grew up in Dillon, SC, and lived in the Lake Norman/Charlotte area for the past twenty years. She was the daughter of the late James Hampton Manning Sr. and Louise Fleming Manning of Dillon, SC, and the granddaughter of the late Thomas Leaholme Manning and Theresa Hampton Manning of Latta, SC. Chaytor was preceded in death by her husband, John Edward Blalock, Jr, her brother, James Hampton Manning, Jr of Augusta GA and her sister, Elizabeth (Bebe) Manning Bethea of Greenville SC. She is survived by her daughter, Chaytor Blalock Chandler and her beloved son-in-law, Bob of Cornelius, NC and her son, John E Blalock, III of Charlotte, NC. She is also survived by her niece/daughter, Fleming Bethea Markel of Greenville, grandchildren, Christy Chandler of Nashville, TN and Graham Chandler of Charlotte, NC, her extended family, Gaye Chandler Frye and her husband Doug of Chester, SC, Jason and Dayna Johnston of Rock Hill, SC., and numerous nieces and nephews. An accomplished portrait artist, Chaytor studied art in the French Quarter of New Orleans, LA. She was a member of the Virginia D.A.R. and served as leader of the Danville, VA chapter of the C.A.R. She began her career in Interior Design in Charlotte, was an Associate ASID member and participated in several Charlotte Symphony/ASID Designer Houses after forming her own design firm, Chaytors Two. In her retirement, Chaytor became the care giver for Will and Nelle Thomas of Davidson, NC who quickly became her second set of grandchildren. She remained close to the Thomas family up to the time of her death. Chaytor was an avid golfer, loved animals of all kinds especially her dogs. She was funny, quirky, set in her ways and fiercely protective of her family. The quintessential southern lady. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday March 3, 2014 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 8600 Mt. Holly-Huntersville Rd.,Huntersville, NC 28078 Reception to follow in the Parish Hall A private graveside burial will be held in Magnolia Cemetery, Latta, SC at a later date.
