Louis Zuliani, 88, of Charlotte, NC passed away quietly in his sleep on the morning of May 25th, at the Brightmore Assisted Living facility. Louis was born Alois Giobatta Zuliani on May 1, 1929. Louis is from Elgg Switzerland, a small village near Zurich, in the German speaking part of the country. He married wife Tina in Switzerland before coming to the USA in 1953. Tina and Louis originally settled in NJ before moving to the Charlotte area in 1991. Louis was trained in Switzerland as a Mechanical Engineer and machinist, and served in the Swiss army in the years after World War II as a P-51 mechanic. Shortly after arriving in the United States, he enlisted in the US Army and served in Korea, becoming an American citizen at a naturalization ceremony in Seoul. After this service, he returned to the United States, attended Farleigh Dickenson University in NJ and bought a first home on the GI Bill. He held a variety of positions, but eventually started a small business importing Machine Tools from Switzerland. He was a proud member of the Swiss Society of Charlotte, and enjoyed speaking Swiss German with his friends. He was also fluent in Italian, and, of course, English.
He was a loving friend, father and husband. His wife Tina passed away in 2011, and is also pre-deceased by two brothers, a sister and a son, Roy. He is survived by son Walter, a daughter in law Kim, and a six year old grandson Jackson living in Hudson, Wisconsin. Lou will always and forever be loved and missed by his friends and family.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 from 9:30 am until 10:30 am, at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home, Huntersville. A funeral mass will follow at St. Mark Catholic Church at 11:00 am.
