Louis Franklin McDonald Jr., “Frank” went to his eternal home in heaven on February 6, 2025. He was born on April 30, 1963, in Atlanta, Georgia to parents Elizabeth “Libba” (Williams) and Louis Franklin McDonald, Sr.
Frank graduated from the Lovett School where he was a member of the National Honor Society and the Varsity baseball team. He was an active participant in Boy Scouts and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. At the University of Virginia, Frank was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.
The magnificent beauty of the mountains and the beach were important to Frank. He was an avid hiker, climbing peaks in Oregon and navigating trails throughout the Appalachians. A skilled kayaker, he enjoyed the challenges and thrill of whitewater rapids. Frank’s love of music was well known amongst friends and family. He spent time learning to play the banjo and traveled to many places to share and support live music, concerts and festivals.
Frank lived in Nags Head, NC before enrolling in law school and earning a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Oregon. After obtaining his law degree Frank worked with several firms in Oregon and North Carolina. Most recently he was employed by Big V Property Group in Charlotte, NC as Real Estate Counsel.
Friends and family will cherish Frank as a “connector of people” with a larger-than-life personality. Those who know will remember his gift of always bringing a smile and joy to their lives. Many received his unconditional love and laughs from The Treehouse years to his time in Oregon and NC.
In addition to his mother, Frank is survived by his adored children, Madeleine McDonald and Duncan McDonald, their mother, Gina; his brother, Jim (Carolyn); his sister, Sara (David); his beloved canine companion, DeuxDah; nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends who loved him dearly.
