Lona Meyer Hills-Ocon

September 9, 1934 — March 25, 2024

Statesville

Lona Meyer Hills-Ocon passed away peacefully in Huntersville, North Carolina on March 25, 2024 after 89 wonderful years of life.

Lona was born on September 9, 1934 in Brookdale, Canada on a large dairy farm to her loving parents, Fred and Susie Meyer. Lona spent her time working on the farm prior to becoming a beloved school teacher. She taught for eight years in Quebec, Canada, prior to moving to North Carolina in 1964 where she continued to teach in Mecklenburg County. She had a passion for teaching young children and spent her career teaching K-3 grades at both Starmount Elementary and Pineville Elementary.

Lona loved to travel, especially with her family. There were always highly anticipated trips to the beach in the summertime with her children and grandchildren. She also had a love for collecting statues of elephants, trunk up only, for good luck. Lona will be remembered for her spunky personality and caring demeanor.

Lona was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Ocon and her parents, Fred and Susie Meyer. She is survived by her children, Ken Hills (Susan) of Clover, SC and Wanda Day (Jim) of Statesville, NC. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Jake Taylor (Haley), Garrett Hills (Lena), and Jesy Maher (Chris). In her later years, Lona had the chance to spend time with her great grandchildren, Ryland, Paxton, and Lilliana.

Lona will be forever loved, and the family is grateful for the many, many years shared with her.

The family will hold a private memorial service. Condolences and memories may be shared online at www.KepnerFH.com
