Lois Daniels

Lois Mae Daniels, 92, of Davidson, N.C. passed away Friday, January 22, 2016.

Lois was born May 18, 1923, in Forbes, North Dakota to John and Lala Smith.  She graduated from Forbes High School and attended North Dakota Industrial College in Ellendale, ND.  There she met her husband,  Glenn H. Daniels and they were married on April 3, 1942. 

Lois’ early career was as a teacher in a one room school house in North Dakota.   With Glenn overseas in the service during WWII, Lois worked at the Black Hills Ordinance Depot selling war bonds.   Upon Glenn’s return home, he and Lois moved their growing family to Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois and Ohio while Glenn pursued his post graduate degrees and career in Education and Lois raised 5 children.  After her husband's passing, Lois moved to Davidson, NC to be closer to her youngest grandchildren.

Lois stayed enjoyed camping and sewing and loved to travel throughout the United States and the world.  She and Glenn spent a year and a half living in Nigeria while Glenn worked for the Nigerian Department of Agriculture as part of the USAID program.  She was active in the various churches they attended, taught sunday school and delivered Meals on Wheels for many years.     

Lois was preceded in death by her  husband of 62 years, Glenn, her parents, John and Layla,  brother Dallas, and sisters Phyllis and Gladys.

Surviving are sisters Mavis Griffin of Palo Alto, California and Vonda (Ernie) Schnitger of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and brother Earle (Joanne) Smith of Riverside, California; daughters Glenda (Jim) Cimino of Omaha, Nebraska, Camille (Kevin) Wiley of Charlotte, North Carolina; sons Aldon (Pat) Daniels of Norway, Maine, Gregg (Judy) Daniels of Chatham, Illinois, Brian Daniels of Pleasant Grove, Utah;  grandchildren Dan Cimino, Randy Cimino, Kristine Armes, Nicole Daniels, Allison Daniels, Christopher Daniels, Philip Daniels, Sarah Hanks, Keara Wiley, Cacey Wiley and Ashley Wiley; great-grandchildren Jacob Cimino, Jadin Armes, Arthur Armes, Robert Jr. Armes, Kaleb Daniels, Jonah Daniels, Sebastian Hanks, Eli Hanks.  

A Memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, Bowling Green, Ohio on Saturday, January 30th at 11:00 am with visitation at 10 am prior to the service and a luncheon afterward.

Memorial  contributions can be made to the USO of North Carolina or the following Charlotte charities:  A Child's Place, Friendship Trays and the Humane Society of Charlotte.
