Lillian Edna Kenney Cobaugh, 90, passed away on Sep. 8, 2011 at St Andrews Assisted Living Center in Concord, NC. Born on Nov. 7, 1920, in Philadelphia, PA, she was the eldest daughter of James E. and Anna K. Kenney, Sr. She spent her youth in Philadelphia and Pine Beach, NJ. Lillian received a full scholarship to Temple University and graduated Phi Beta Kappa as Valedictorian in 1941. She was a supporter of many causes and a member of the Association of University Women and the League of Women Voters. During World War II she worked on the first computer at the University of Pennsylvania designed to calculate artillery trajectories. Lillian spent her young adult and middle years in Richmond, VA, raising 3 children. She relocated to Pine Beach, NJ and served for over 20 years with the Ocean County Office of Emergency Preparedness. She is survived by her younger brother, James E. Kenney, Jr and sister, Ruth K. Weinstein, both of Philadelphia, PA; sons Eric J. Cobaugh and daughter-in-law Barbara of Moneta, VA and Donn S. Cobaugh and daughter-in-law Kathy of Chesterfield, VA and daughter Barbara C. Overcash and son-in-law Larry, of Kannapolis, NC. Grandma Lil is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. We remember Lillian as a kind soul, though (like her mother) famously directionally challenged. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM, Oct 29, 2011 in the Chapel of Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home, 16901 Old Statesville Road, Huntersville, NC 28078. In lieu of flowers, a donation in her name to the cause of your choice would make her smile. Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting the family. www.raymerfh.com
