Lilia Leon

January 25, 1925 — October 12, 2018

Mrs. León peacefully passed away at Genesis Home Care in Mooresville, NC on October 12, 2018. She was 93 and born in Cienfuegos, Cuba January 25, 1925 to José del Cueto Herranz and Engracia Dalmau Perdomo and was the youngest of 4 children. She and family emigrated from Cuba in 1963 to secure their families “Freedom” in America where they all became US Citizens. She was educated at Sacred Heart College in Belmont and became aTeacher in Cuba, teaching English. After fleeing Cuba to the US, they settled in the Charlotte Area since family and friends resided in Charlotte. She earned her US/NC Teaching Certificate at Appalachian College in Boone to become a Spanish Teacher at Forest Hills High School in Marshville. She taught many years and later retired to Miami to be near other family and friends. In Miami, she went back to teach English as a Second Language to Adult Students and taught there until she retired, after 50 years. She and her Husband relocated back to the Charlotte Area in 2000.

She is preceded in death by her husband, David Ramón León and survived by their son, Ramón Jose León and wife, Arminee Bowler of Claverack, NY; grandchildren, Jason León and wife, Khara of Connecticut, Emily León, Alex León, and their mother, Stephanie León, all of Ashville. Also, great-grandchildren, Ashley, Avalyn & Emma.

Mrs. León is also survived by her daughter, Maria León Wilson and husband Rick Wilson and grandchildren, Ricky Wilson & Andy Wilson all of The Lake Norman Area.

Additionally, she is also survived by a Special Nephew, Ramón deArmas and wife, Janette residing in Summerville, SC.

She will be truly missed by her family, students and friends due to her kind, giving and pleasant demeaner.

The family will have a visitation 2-3 pm on Tuesday, October 30th with a Service to Honor her life at 3pm, both at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home, 16901 Old Statesville Road, Huntersville.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Iredell County, 202 Williamson Rd, Suite 201 Mooresville and/or St Therese Catholic Church, 217 Brawley School Road, Mooresville, NC
