Lewis Orr Crawford III, beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2025 at the age of 82 in Concord, North Carolina. He was born on February 11, 1943 to the late Lewis Orr Crawford Jr. and Hallie Crawford in Athens, Georgia. Lewis’s journey through life was one marked by dedication, faith and love.
Lewis was a man of deep faith and conviction, a devoted Christian who lived by the teaching of his faith. His life was a testament to the values he held dear, with a heart full of love and spirit of generosity. He was an active member of his church community, sharing his wisdom and kindness through his involvement with the Gideons, touching many lives with his warmth and compassion.
A proud veteran, Lewis served our county with distinction in the United States Army, earning both the Army Commendation Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. His commitment to service extended beyond the military, as he pursued higher education with zeal and determination. He graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and later earned an MBA from the University of Illinois, accomplishments that paved the way for a successful career.
But above all, Lewis was a family man. He was the biggest lover and supporter of his family, always putting them first and cherishing every moment spent together. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sherry Crawford, who stood by his side through life’s journey. Together, they shared a bond that was as strong as it was loving, a testament to the life they built together hand and hand.
He is also survived by his sister, Kay Greene; sister, Jean (Bert) Moody; sister, Carol (Linton) Thompson; son, Lewis Charles Crawford “Chase”; daughter-in-law, Sarah Crawford; daughter, Megan Al-Zaid; son-in-law, Bill Al-Zaid; grandchildren, Bear Crawford, Poppy Crawford, Sarah (Eric) Lozano, Madison (Ryan Kaminer) Paugh, Jacob Al-Zaid; great grandchild Baylor Kaminer.
Along with his parents, Lewis is preceded in death by his brother-in-law Bob Greene.
To celebrate Lewis' remarkable life, a visitation will be held on Thursday, April 10, 2025 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home in Huntersville, NC. A funeral service will be held Friday, April 11th at 9:00AM Calvary Lutheran Church in Concord, NC. Burial will held at Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd, Salisbury, NC at 11:00AM
In the words of Lewis himself, “It’s not what you drive, it’s how you arrive.” Let us remember him for the way he arrived in our lives-with grace, love, and a gentle spirit that will forever guide us. Rest in peace, dear Lewis. You are deeply missed and eternally loved.
