Lessie Campbell Williams, age 94, passed peacefully November 25th from her earthly to her Heavenly family while at her home in the Oakdale neighborhood of Charlotte, NC. Her departure was 15 years to the day from the Thanksgiving Day passing of her husband, the late Ernest B. Williams. Lessie was born September 1, 1920 in Union Grove, NC, eldest daughter of the late George and Georgia Campbell. Sisters Esther Moore, Martha Snow, Magdalene Ellis and brother Wayne Campbell preceded her in death. Her brother Luther Campbell and sister-in-law Martha Campbell, widow of Wayne Campbell, survive her. She is also survived by six children: Judy Waters (Rev. William Waters) of Charlotte; Philip Williams of her home; Joel Williams (Karen) of Charlotte; Mary Kennally (Michael) of Clifton Park, NY; Mike Williams of Walterboro, SC; Ray Williams (Kathy) of Creedmore, NC; twelve grandchildren: Paul Williams, Michael Kennally Jr, William Waters, Gretchen Calhoun, Danielle Williams, Derek Williams, Patrick Kennally, David Williams, Ryan Williams, Mark Williams, Brian Kennally, and John Williams; and eight great-grandchildren: Claire, Caroline, Mauve, Aislinn, Piper, Zoey, Link, and Max, plus many nieces and nephews. Many remember her from many years managing the grocery that she and her husband owned in the nearby Hoskins neighborhood. She was a founding member of Charlotte Gospel Chapel Church, which she attended from 1952 until her death. A servant to all and mother to many, our loving mother will be most fondly remembered for opening her home to family, friends and strangers in need of temporary residence, including immigrants from many nations. She was always willing to lend an ear to those needing a shoulder for unburdening their hearts.
