Lawrence Paul "Pete" Sigmon, 93 of Charlotte, NC passed away on April 27, 2021. Pete was born in Lincolnton, NC on April 13, 1928 to the late James William Sigmon and Mollie Clark Sigmon.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by 9 of his 12 siblings.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years Billie Sherrill Sigmon, daughter, B. Paulette Sigmon Assey(spouse Phillip Assey deceased); son, the Rev. Dr. Lawrence M. Sigmon (spouse Amy Sigmon); daughter Anne Sigmon Del Tufo (spouse Wayne Del Tufo); grandchildren, Dr Kristin West (spouse Cameron West); Dr. Alexa Hornik (spouse Kevin Hornik); Patricia Sigmon, J.T. Del Tufo; great grandchildren Luke West, Tate West, Lily Harper Hornik (due September 2021) Sisters, Essie Sigmon Kiser and Patsy Sigmon Boyles.
Pete was born the 7th child and 3rd son of a large loving family of 12 children. Growing up in a beautiful farmhouse on approximately 40 acres in Lincolnton, he was brought up in a family and Christ centered home.
Pete enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during WW II. He was very proud of his time sailing all around the world on the USS Chukawon.
In 1948, Pete married the love and light of his life, Billie Lou Sherrill Sigmon. In 1949, they moved to Charlotte, NC and created a glorious life together with their 3 children.
Pete was a plumbing and HVAC technician and engineer for JV Andrews company for 42 years. He built systems and serviced thousands of homes and buildings in Charlotte, later becoming the business manager. All of the customers always requested it be "Pete" to be the one they wanted to come and fix their issue.
Pete was a member of Cook's Memorial Presbyterian Church since 1950. He served as a Deacon and Elder for many of those years.
Most importantly, Pete was a beloved father, husband, son and brother. He loved the Lord and truly lived his life as Christ had modeled for us. He valued all others above himself and never had a mean tone or curt word to anyone. He was a kind, gentle, and sweet soul. He respected all persons and opened his heart to anyone in need.
A Funeral service will be held Thursday, May 6, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Cook's Memorial Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC.
Interment with military honors will follow the service at Cook's Memorial Cemetery.
