Lawrence D. Shaw

Lawrence D. “Larry” Shaw Jr., 88, of Pelham, NY (currently residing in Charlotte, NC) passed away on March 26, 2023.

Lawrence was born on May 3, 1934 in Waterbury, CT to the late Lawrence D. Shaw and Anna Donais Shaw. Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Phyliss Maturo Shaw.

Originally a jazz pianist and draftsman at Waterbury Farrel Foundry & Machine Company, Lawrence was an insurance broker for Aetna, later changing careers to become a computer systems analyst for Westchester Rockland Newspapers and General Foods.

In addition to being a voracious reader of science, mathematics, art, and philosophy he loved playing and listening to jazz and classical music. His love of music was passed to his three children, all of whom play an instrument and like their mother consider music and the arts an integral part of their lives.

Larry is remembered by friends and family for his humor, skepticism, and love of food & travel.

He is survived by his children: son, David Shaw and his wife B. Diane Martin, daughter,  Susan Ayson and her husband Paul Ayson, son, Christopher Shaw and his wife Melanie Shaw ; grandchildren, Jillian Ayson, Christopher Ayson, and Miles Shaw;  and sisters, Sister Mary Emanuel (June) Shaw and Carol Shaw Austad.

A private service will be held with his immediate family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Larry's memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
