Laura Pietsch Shinn of Huntersville, NC, passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2025. Born on October 28, 1947, in Hackensack, NJ, she was the daughter of Roger and Clara Pietsch. Laura spent her childhood traveling, living in places such as New Jersey, New York, Venezuela, and Singapore. She later moved to Denver, NC, where she raised her children.
Laura was a gifted artist, creating many beautiful paintings and sharing her talent by teaching art lessons to children. She had a natural ability to genuinely connect with people, making friends wherever she went. Her positive, fun-loving, and free spirited nature was truly contagious, and she was always generous with her time. Voted Prom Queen in high school, Laura was known for her warm and vibrant personality. She was often a “safe space” for many people as family members and friends felt that they could come to her with any problem to seek her empathy, comfort, and advice. Her love for animals was immense, and she often rescued dogs and cats she found along the side of the road. She shared a love for gardening inspired by her mother and made the world’s best barbecue meatballs and magic cookie bars. Above all, Laura treasured being an incredibly supportive mother and grandmother, dedicating countless hours to her family and ensuring their happiness.
Laura was predeceased by her parents, Roger and Clara Pietsch, with whom she shared a deeply special bond. Laura is survived by her daughter, Cara Shinn Lursen (husband Stephen Lursen); son, Adam Peter Shinn (wife Karen Shinn); granddaughter, Leiana Claire Lursen; grandson, Luke Elliot Lursen; granddaughter, Emerson Laura Shinn; and brother, Terry Wayne Pietsch (wife Linda Pietsch).
