Larry Guy Hooper was called from his earthly home to his eternal home with Jesus early on Thursday morning, November 28, 2013. He was born in Concord, NC on April 15, 1936. A patriot, Larry served his country with the 82nd Airborne from 1953 to 1956. After retiring from Freightliner of Cleveland he began a serious hobby in gardening. He was affectionately called the "Tomato Man" and as word spread neighbors came regularly to see if there were any available. In addition to gardening, Larry enjoyed a wide range of hobbies including golfing, watching NASCAR races, listening to blue grass music and his antique car. He recently entered his 1931 Ford A Model Coupe in a local car show and won "Best in Show," but most of all, Larry cherished his family, friends and church. He was a member of Webbs Chapel UMC in Denver, NC where he served as a Trustee. Larry was fun loving with a great sense of humor and a smile that would warm anyone's heart. He was the proud grandpaw to his grandson, Blake and loved to listen to him play the violin. He leaves to mourn his passing his beloved wife of 56 years, Billie June Sherrill Hooper; his daughter, Autumn, the apple of his eye, and her husband, Kane Haynes and grandson, Blake Haynes. He is also survived by his sisters, Louise Tate and Mildred Davis, both of Kannapolis and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lock and Maggie Hooper, siblings, Hazel Brotherton, Mary Hall and Jepty Hooper.
