Kenneth Philip Roberts

September 16, 1927 — January 4, 2016

Kenneth P. Roberts, 88, of Mooresville, NC, died January 4, 2016, at the Serenity House in Huntersville NC. Ken was born September 16, 1927, and grew up in Reading, MA. He graduated from Reading High School, and then earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering and a BS in Business and Engineering Administration at MIT.  He then completed his MMP at Harvard Business School. Ken served in the US Navy at the end of the World War II, and later served as a Lieutenant, US Army Ordinance Corp during the Korean War.

Ken was an avid sailor since childhood, and cruised the New England coast for many years. He earned his Captain’s license, and was a lifelong member of the US Power Squadron, past President of the Portsmouth NH Propeller Club, former board member of the Portsmouth Yacht Club, and a past Commodore of Pepperrell Cove Yacht Club in Kittery Maine.

Besides boating, Ken was a very active radio amateur, and was the President of the Quannapowitt  Radio Association. He also served on the Reading MA Board of Education and was a member of the Rotary Club in both NH and NC. Ken especially enjoyed his association with the Lake Norman Golden Boys after he moved to the Mooresville area.

Pre-deceased by his daughter Wendy, Ken leaves behind his wife Norma of 64 years, daughter Kim and husband Drew, six grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.  We cannot forget his ever loyal four footed companion, Nicky.

A memorial service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, January 9th at Williamson's Chapel United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County, Statesville, NC or Williamson's Chapel UMC - building fund, Mooresville, NC
