Kathryn Rayburn Mikeal, 83, of Stanley, passed away on Friday, July, 1, 2022. Kathy was born in Charlotte on August 17, 1938, the daughter of the late Parks W. Rayburn and Ruth Bass Rayburn. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Scott T. Mikeal Jr.; sisters, Ernestine Russell, Margaret Rayburn, and Pansy Rayburn; and brother, Wayne Tyronne Rayburn.
Kathy is survived by her sisters, Betty Jean Cummings, and Barbara Duncan; daughters, Debbie Mikeal Smith and husband Rick, Sandra Hudson and husband Joe; grandchildren, Summer Thornton (Willie), Chére Raye (Travis), Chanon Smith (Kelly), Angie Mills (Jason); and eight great granddaughters, Hope, Hannah, Cameron, Brinley, Kennedy, Madison, Maggie, and Atlanta.
Kathy was a petite true Southern lady filled with charm, beauty, and grace. She was a talented artist, painter, and poet. Kathy won awards for her religious poetry. She was a 1956 graduate of West Mecklenburg High. Kathy loved writing calligraphy and gardening. You could always expect a hand-written note or poem from her at every birthday and special occasion. She loved sending “special” cards to others who were sick or needed cheering up. She loved singing in the choir, traveling, and making friends wherever she traveled. She loved the Lord with all her heart. Kathy was a member of Lake Norman Baptist Church and the Neighborhood Church, serving as a choir member and Sunday school teacher. Kathy worked as a secretary at Lance Crackers. In 1973, she went to work for Monsanto Textiles as a secretary in the sales department. Her kind and loving disposition will be remembered by all who knew her.
Many thanks to Lincoln County Hospice for their support and wonderful help, which allowed her daughters to be her caregivers at her home during her illness.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2022, 2:00 PM, at Lake Norman Baptist Church (7921 Sam Furr Road, Huntersville, NC 28078) with Reverend Landon Horton officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 – 2:00 PM prior to the service. Interment at Mt. Zion Community Cemetery will immediately follow the services.
