Kathryn Sherrill Harris, 102, died December 9, 2014 at her home at the Carriage Club of Charlotte. She was born June 1, 1912 in Cornelius, NC the daughter of the late Mary Ann (Mollie) Barnett and Frank Cebrun Sherrill. Kathryn graduated from Davenport Academy and attended Duke University where she met her future husband, Major Haymond Harris. After working in Charlotte at Union National Bank, she married Haymond in 1939 after he completed medical school at Emory. Following her marriage, Kathryn worked in the pediatric department at Emory while Haymond was a surgical resident. In 1941, Haymond was recruited to a medical unit stationed at Ashford General Hospital (The Greenbrier) in White Sulphur Springs, WV where they stayed until the end of the war. In 1944, their only child was born there. The family, moved to Newport, Arkansas in 1947 where Dr. Harris joined his father in establishing the Harris Hospital and Clinic. There Kathryn was active in the First Methodist Church, Service League, PTA, PEO, and several bridge clubs. She was also a member of the Alexandriana Chapter of the DAR in Cornelius. In 2004, after over sixty years in Newport, Kathryn moved to Charlotte to be near her daughter and family. She made many new, dear friends at the Carriage Club. Kathryn was predeceased by her parents, her four brothers-Frank, Kermit, Jack and Barnett- her three sisters- Mildred, Mary and Emily and her beloved husband, Haymond. She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn Harris Cook and husband Dr. Joseph W. Cook of Charlotte, three grandchildren, Dr. William H. Cook and wife Shelley of Cincinnati, OH, Dr. Marcus P. Cook and wife Tracey of Charlotte and Mary Ann Cook Smith and husband Clif of High Point, NC. Also surviving are her six great grandchildren, Matthew and Henry Cook, Anna and Grace Cook, Harris and Cook Smith and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Alice Hammonds, Sandra Hayes, Takila Boler and Ginger Harris for their loving care in her last year. And a special thanks to our friend Iris Allen. A graveside service conducted by the Reverend Jill Smith will be held at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery in Cornelius where she was a life-long member at 11:00 a.m. on Friday December 12, 2014. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt.
