Kathleen Cherry Marshall

Kathleen Cherry Marshall Kathleen Marshall, 94, of Davidson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother died on Friday, July 29, 2011. Kathleen was born February 16, 1917 in Orangeburg, SC, an only child of Adam Whitfield Cherry and Alma Wannamaker Cherry. She was educated in the Orangeburg school system and graduated from Hollins College in 1938. In 1939 she married Charles Foster Marshall of Anderson, SC. After WWII they moved to Lancaster, SC where they raised their three children. In 1969 they moved to Charlotte, NC and in 1989 to the Pines at Davidson in Davidson, NC. Kathleen was active in her church and community throughout her life. She leaves a legacy of unselfish love and devotion to her family and countless friends. She is survived by her three children and their spouses: Dr. Charles Foster Marshall and his wife Martha Jean of Charlotte; Cherry Marshall McNabb and her husband Laurence of Western Spring, IL; and Mary Marshall Hixon and her husband Samuel of Richmond, VA. She is also survived by her six grandchildren: Charles Foster Marshall, III and his wife Fraley; Edward Adger Marshall and his wife Hadley; Erin McNabb Howe and her husband Bill; James Edward McNabb and his wife Kate; Kathleen Hixon Sheffield and her husband Peter; and Marshall Hixon Dove. Also surviving are her nine great-grandsons Charles Foster Marshall IV, Edmond Drake Marshall, Jackson Walter Dove, Charles Cowling Sheffield, Robert Jordan Marshall, Thomas Hudson Marshall, Patrick Bryce Howe, James Richard McNabb, and Owen Laurence McNabb and her three great-granddaughters Sadler Elizabeth Marshall, Mary Valadon Sheffield and Anna Kathleen Howe. A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 1, 2011 at 10:00 AM in the Davidson College Presbyterian Church Chapel. Visitation will follow at The Pines. The Marshall family is grateful for the love and care shown Kathleen by the staff at The Pines. She was at home and at peace because of this special place. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Residents Support Fund of The Pines, 400 Avinger Lane, Davidson, NC.
