Kathleen Louise “Kathy” Roberts Kalafatis, 62, of Cornelius, NC died peacefully on December 12, 2022,from complications due to Dementia. Born in Maracaibo, Venezuela, Kathy was the daughter of the late James E. Roberts and the late Yolonda (Thomas) Roberts and was the sister of the late Patricia L. Roberts. A 1978 graduate and salutatorian of the Colegio Internacional High School in Caracas Venezuela, Kathy received her bachelor’s degree in Architecture from the University of Virginia in 1982.
Upon graduation, Kathy began and spent most of her career in New York City at the McGraw Hill Companies in the construction publications department. Kathy worked and held positions in marketing management for construction publications, specifically, Engineering News Record and Architectural Record magazines.
Kathy met her future husband James C. Kalafatis in October 1992 in Queens, NY where they both resided and were married on May 7, 1994. They began their married life together living in East Northport, NY before moving to North Carolina in 2019. They raised three children, Justine, Christopher, and Miranda.
Kathy had taken a leave from her career in 1995 to be a stay-at-home mom before returning to work as a teacher’s assistant for children with disabilities.
Kathy was a devoted family person. She enjoyed traveling and vacationing with family and friends and notably to many different countries with her parents and siblings. She also enjoyed the movies, was a tennis fan, and loved all family type activities. She was also an Avid art lover and studied art and architecture abroad in Venice, Italy.
Kathy will always be remembered to have that warm beautiful smile, a loving and good-hearted nature of a person that she was and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Kathy is survived by her husband James of Cornelius, NC; daughter, Justine of Fort Mill, SC; daughter, Miranda of Cornelius, NC; son, Christopher of Cornelius, NC; brother, James E. Roberts, II (Arlene Huggins); sister, Yolanda Lisa Roberts of Newport, OR; and nephews, James E. Roberts, III, and Chris Bryant (Carlos Rondon) of Miami, FL.
A viewing for family and friends will be held from 10:00 -11:00 A.M., on Thursday, December 22, 2022 at the Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., which will be followed by a procession to Gethsemane Cemetery and Memorial Gardens in Charlotte for interment.
