Katharine Freed Barnhart

Katharine Louise Barnhart passed away September 15, 2018, at the Hospice House in Huntersville, NC.  She was 72 years old and had been struggling with bone cancer for over three years. 

She was born on January 13, 1946, in Pittsburgh, PA, to the late Frank David Barnhart (b. 1905 - d. 1964) and Katharine Louise (née Freed) Barnhart Cowan (b. 1915 - d. 2006).

Through her twenties and thirties, she raised her three children and then at 40, she completed her Bachelor of Science degree at Seton Hill College in 1986 and went on to have a twenty-two year career as a Nutrition Support Dietitian.  She worked for hospitals, including the VA Medical Center in Pittsburgh, PA, and at major trauma centers in Tallahassee and Orlando, FL.  When she moved to Charlotte, NC, in 1997, she specialized in renal dietetics at several dialysis centers throughout the area.

She greatly enjoyed traveling abroad together with family and friends.   Following her retirement, she became a proficient watercolor painter.

Katharine is survived by her daughter Heather Anne Hoover of Pittsburgh, PA, and grandchild Benedetto Joshua Brocato;  by her son Todd David Hoover and his wife Jennifer (née Ludi) Hoover of Wanship, UT;  by her daughter Megan Alana Hoover and her husband Giovanni Pisapia of Cornelius, NC, and grandchildren, Michele Todd Pisapia and Ettore Nicola Pisapia;  by her brother Frank David and his wife Reid of Ft. Worth, TX and their two children John Eric and Carol Ann;  by her aunt Marjorie Millar(née Freed) deLorimier (b. 1923) of Blairsville, GA.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her older sister Barbara (née Barnhart) Smith (b. 1939 - d. 2015).
