Karen Sue White Weaver

March 6, 1945 — October 25, 2016

Karen Sue White Weaver, resident of Huntersville, N.C., passed away on October 25, 2016. Karen had battled Alzheimer’s since 2012.

 

Born in Independence, MO, Karen graduated from Blue Springs (MO) High School and William Woods College in Fulton, MO.  She spent her junior year of college at the University of the Americas in Mexico City, where she continued development of her Spanish language skills.

 

Married in Kansas City, MO, in December of 1969, career moves took Karen and her family from the Kansas City area to Louisville, Kentucky, Red Oak, Texas, Augusta, Georgia, to their final relocation to Huntersville in 1988.  Karen began teaching Spanish to CMS Middle School students in 1989, first at Alexander Middle School and later at Davidson International Baccalaureate School.  She retired at the end of the 2007 school year.  Karen was loved by her students and colleagues, many of whom still speak fondly of her as a teacher who impacted their lives in such a positive manner.

 

Karen is survived by her husband, Alex, son Matt, daughter-in-law Neomi and their children, Grace and Sylvie, Seattle, WA, and daughter Katie of Nashville.  She is also survived by her brothers Don of Bates City, MO, Dwayne of Prairie Village, KS, Rollie of Independence, MO, and Ron of Denver, CO, as well as many nieces and nephews.  She leaves behind a circle of friends whose lives were deeply impacted by Karen’s love and many kindnesses. 

 

Visitation is scheduled from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 28, at Raymer – Kepner Funeral Home, Huntersville.    The funeral will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 29th at  Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Cornelius.  The family will be in the Family Life Center following the service.  Karen will be laid to rest in Springfield, MO on Monday, Oct 31st at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, following a service at Gorman – Scharf Funeral Home.
