Karen Miller Johnson, 73, of Davidson, NC passed away on May 31, 2013 in the home she loved and with family and friends she loved. Karen was born on December 7, 1939 in Cleveland, OH, to the late Earl and Mary Baker Miller. She graduated from Shaw High School in Cleveland, OH and attended Edison Community College, in Fort Myers, FL. Karen raised her family in Fort Myers, FL where she was also employed by Edison Community College and the First Baptist Church of Cape Coral, FL. Karen is survived by her husband of 40 years, Bill Johnson of the home; sons, Scott and wife Alisa of Brooklyn, NY, Greg and wife Jodi of White Plains, NY; granddaughters, Viala and Dylan Johnson of White Plains, NY; sister, Gail Rollin of Cleveland, GA; mother in law, Evelyn Ferguson of Sarasota, FL. Karen enjoyed nature and in addition for her love of her family, she loved animals. Her life was enriched by Oliver and six other dogs, six cats and a cockatiel, Snowy, as well as numerous pets her sons acquired while growing up in Florida. As a pet sitter in Davidson, she cared for and loved many family pets throughout the community. Karen was a member of the Davidson College Presbyterian Church. Karen fought a courageous battle with breast cancer for eleven years so she could see her sons marry and begin their life journeys. Her quiet and nurturing nature as well as her unique sense of humor will be cherished. A celebration of Karen's life will be held at 4:00 pm, Thursday June 6, 2013 at the Davidson College Presbyterian Church in Davidson, NC. The family will receive friends at a reception at the church following the service.
