September 18, 1942 — October 2, 2017

Karen Mae Dunton, a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on October 2, 2017 at the age of 75.  She was born in Portland, Oregon on September 18, 1942 to parents Ivan and Hazel Korsund.

Along with her parents, Karen is preceded in death by her adoring husband Bill Dunton, her daughter Debbie Dunton and her brother Joe Korsund.

She leaves to cherish her memory her 3 daughters and son-in-law’s, Carrie and Mark Rich, Stacey and Eric Wyatt and Kristy and Dan Gagovski , her 6 beautiful grandchildren Christopher McConnell, Destry Winant, Kyle McConnell, Avery Wyatt, Skyler Rich and Matthew Gagovski , as well as 2 brothers Ivan Korsund and Ken Korsund and their families.

Karen grew up on a berry farm outside of Portland, Oregon and moved to Hemet, California while in Jr. High School where she met Bill. Karen was a cheerleader while Bill lettered in many sports. The two remained sweethearts throughout high school and married when Karen was 17 as Bill was to be stationed in London, England while serving in the U.S. Air Force.  Karen and Bill lived in many places during their lifetime together including California, England, New Mexico, Idaho and Texas.  They were married for 50 years before Bill’s passing in 2010. Their devotion and love for each other was evident to all. Karen moved to Cornelius, NC in 2014 to be closer to family and built a new home for herself and made many friends.

During Karen’s lifetime, she worked as a realtor and enjoyed playing league tennis, sewing, reading, volunteering and socializing. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She had a love of the ocean and particularly enjoyed visiting the islands of Hawaii. She was known to all as gentle and kind hearted with a beautiful smile and warm heart. Everybody who knew her loved her dearly.

Her family would like to thank her dedicated and loving caregivers Desiree Jant, Annis Hannah, D'Asia Bennett, Talacia Rivers (Blondie) and Rodicia Mitchell, who made it possible for her to remain in her beautiful home where she was surrounded by family and friends.

A Celebration of Karen’s Life is scheduled for Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 1 pm at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home in Huntersville, NC.  Reception is immediately following.
