Joyce Ann (Johnson) Steele, 81, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away March 6, 2024.
Joyce was born in Ellisburg, New York on October 19, 1942 to the late Ray Johnson and Lena Hatch Johnson. In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Steele; sisters, Mildred Johnson-Reed and Jean Johnson-Venton; and her brother, Richard Johnson.
Joyce was a home maker for many years, loved to bake, especially cookies and holiday treats. She joyfully expressed her Christian faith through the United Methodist Church and loved to sing in the choir. She went back to school and learned cosmetology. She loved cutting hair and was a social butterfly who made each of her clients feel special. In her later years she worked for an optometrist office in Delray Beach, Florida. When Paul and Joyce retired, they relocated to Sebring, Florida in which they enjoyed the Tanglewood community and many outings with Wayne and Shirley DeSalvo. Later they moved to Charlotte, NC with their son, Alan and his wife, Maria Steele.
Joyce is survived by her sons, Alan and wife Maria Steele, and Kevin Steele; grandchildren, Lynn Marie Steele, Alan B Steele II and his wife Erin Steele, Jake James Steele, and Mitchell and Katie Steele; great-grandchildren Cameron and Wyatt Steele; and sisters, Margaret Kibling-Grindle, Sharon Kibling-Gudino, and Barbara Kibling-Cross.
A life celebration service will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, March 17, 2024, at Raymer-Kepner funeral home in Huntersville, NC. If you are unable to attend in person, the memorial service will be streamed live on the Raymer-Kepner funeral home site. Memorial contributions may be made in Joyce's memory to Northlake House Memory Care facility or to VIA Health Partners, both located in Charlotte, North Carolina.
