Josie Cashion Rhodes

Mrs. Rhodes, age 78, of Mooresville, NC passed away peacefully on December 31, 2012 surrounded by her family. She was born July 15, 1934 in Cornelius, NC, the daughter of the late William Gaither Cashion and Ruby Ellington Cashion. She was preceded in death by her brothers, William W. "Shug" Cashion and Charles O. Cashion, nephew Mark Cashion and her beloved "Joy". She is survived by her sweetheart and husband of 52 years, Willis, whom she affectionately called "Willie"; her three children and six grandchildren, son Dr. Kyle Rhodes, his wife Ann and their children Evan and Blythe; son Kelly Rhodes and his wife Gina and their children Sarah, Jordan and Annese; daughter Leigh Bicknese, her husband Ralf and their son Cates. To her grandchildren she was known as "Gran" and will be greatly missed. In addition to her immediate family, she is also survived by her sister-in-law Claudette Cashion and her children; and her sister-in-law Linda Wigley and her children. Mrs. Rhodes grew up in Cornelius, NC graduating from North Mecklenburg High School in 1952 where she was on North Meck's first homecoming court, and a standout defensive basketball player. After graduation, she worked for the American Discount Company in the Insurance department. After meeting Willis, they started a family and she became a stay at home mom and "keeper" of Willis. Mrs. Rhodes was a founding member of the Church Of The Good Shepherd serving on numerous church committees. The family wishes to express its sincere thanks and gratitude to Dr. Chong Lieu, Dr. Daniel Kaufer, Dr. Daniel Kohler, the many nurses and staff of Genesis and Catawba Regional Hospice who treated and supported mom. A memorial service will be held at 11:30AM, Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 16900 Zion St, Cornelius, NC with The Reverend Alan Hawkins officiating. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the service. Memorials may be made to the "Lewy Body Dementia Association" 912 Killian Hill Road, S.W, Lilburn, GA 30047.
