Joseph Samuel Martin

Joseph Samuel Martin Sr., age 70, of Stanley, NC , left his earthly home to take his heavenly flight on November 29, 2010 after a brave battle with cancer. Born on December 9, 1939, the son of the late Joseph Rayford Martin and Mebin Yarboro Martin, he grew up surrounded by a large family unit in Reidsville, NC where he graduated from Reidsville High School. He then joined the United States Air Force, where he proudly served his country until 1962. Mr. Martin was retired from Karastan Carpet Mill, where he worked for over 30 years. After retirement, he enjoyed using his artistic talent in a paint and wallpaper business in the Lake Norman area. Joe was a faithful member of Grace Covenant Church, where he served as usher and greeter for many years. He was known for his warmth and gentleness and his love of the Lord. He is survived by his beloved wife Peggy Martin of Stanley; his sister; Jo Lee Martin Greene, her husband Ed, and their daughters, Amanda Ruth Greene and Jillian Leigh Greene, all of Raleigh; his son Joseph Samuel Martin Jr. and his wife Anne Elizabeth Patrick of Atlanta; his stepdaughter, Robin Stump, her husband, Roger, and their daughter, Courtney, all of Stanley. He is further survived by other family and friends to whom he was devoted. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter Allison Lee Martin. Services will be held on Thursday, December 2nd, 2010 at Grace Covenant Church, 17301 Statesville Rd., Cornelius, NC 28031. The family will receive visitation from friends at 6:30pm and a celebration of life memorial service will be held at 7:00pm. Interment will follow at a later date at Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC. The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, donations in his honor be made to Grace Covenant Church, Summer Camp Scholarships or Levine & Dixon Hospice House, 11900 Vanstory Dr., Huntersville, NC 28078
