Joseph John Mark

June 24, 1929 — January 30, 2015

Joseph John Caylor Mark, of Davidson, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2015, after a brief illness. He was born on June 24, 1929, in Hampton, Virginia, to the late Mildred Marjory Mark and Charles Marvin Mark. He graduated from Hampton High School and the College of William and Mary, where he was a standout athlete and student leader, playing on two ranked Bowl teams as an offensive/defensive starter, and earning his Masters in 1954, after serving for two years in the army. An incredible athlete and teacher, who had a lasting impact on the lives of all who were lucky enough to call him "Coach", Joe will be remembered most for his love of people, goodness of heart, and strong faith. He was a gentleman in the truest sense of the word. He was a devoted member of Davidson Methodist Church, an active member of the "Breakfast Club", and gave generously of his time and resources wherever he saw a need. Joe was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Faith Ann DeBolt Mark; his brother Charles Mark; and sisters, Marguerite Morrow and Mildred Warren. He is survived by one brother, James Caylor Mark, and wife Pat; his son, Joseph John Caylor (Chip) Mark and wife Cathy; his daughter, Alyson Grace Mark; grandchildren Caylor Mark (Ellen), Catherine Montague (Addison), and Nellie Mark; his great granddaughter, Charlotte Montague. The family will receive friends at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home in Huntersville on Tuesday, Feb. 3rd from 6-8 pm. A memorial service will be held at Davidson United Methodist Church on Wednesday, February 4th at 1:30 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Davidson United Methodist Church, 233 S.
