There will be services held at 1 PM on Thursday May 21, 2015 at Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home for John A. Vojtko age 78, of Huntersville, North Carolina who passed away on Sunday May 17, 2015 of heart failure. John was born February 8, 1937 in Masury, Ohio a son of John G. & Mary C. Javorsky Vojtko. He graduated Valedictorian from Brookfield High School and went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from Youngstown State University where he graduated with honors. He then joined the Army ROTC and earned the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. John worked for Martin Marietta for the U.S. Space Program on the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo missions in Cape Canaveral, Florida as a Safety Systems Engineer. He then worked for Dyna Com in Hubbard as a Systems Analyst. Later he went to Schenectady, New York and worked for General Electric as a Systems Analyst in the Gas Turbine Division for 30 years retiring in September of 2000. After his retirement John and his wife moved to Huntersville to enjoy retirement and to be near their son and to escape the cold winters. While in North Carolina he enjoyed spending time with his family and visiting Starbucks at every opportunity. John was a committed family man and will be greatly missed by his wife of 46 years the former Janice Popa; his son Rob of Huntersville, North Carolina; and his daughter Suzanne and her husband Tony Morehouse of Des Moines, Iowa. He also leaves his brothers Raymond Vojtko of Masury, and Thomas Vojtko of Binghamton, New York. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Bernard Vojtko and his sister Mary Suzanne. There will be calling hours on Thursday May 21, 2015 two hours prior to the service from 11 AM to 1 PM at Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home. John will be laid to rest at Hubbard Union Cemetery.
