John William Turner, Jr. ("JT"), 63, of Cornelius, NC passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on February 17, 2015. John was born in Eglin A.F.B., FL on December 21, 1951, the oldest son of the late Lt Col. John W. Turner, Sr. (ret.) and Mae Burley Turner. John's family settled in Kerrville, TX in 1964 where John graduated from Tivy High School, lettering in tennis. John earned a BA in Business Administration from Angelo State University in 1974. John worked for 30 years as a National Bank Examiner with the U. S. Treasury Department Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC). His job at the OCC took him on assignments throughout the United States as well as several foreign countries. In 2008 John retired from the OCC and he and his wife Carol moved to Cornelius. John's hobbies included hunting, boating, and restoring old cars/trucks. One such vehicle purchased in Utah led friends/family to question why he drove instead of shipping it home to which he replied, "Where is the fun in that?" He was a devoted husband and a loving father to his two children, Jeffrey and Jennifer and his stepdaughter, Amanda. During the summer months, he packed the Suburban and led the family on annual excursions to places such as Niagara Falls, Canada, Rehoboth Beach, DE and Minneapolis, MN. John served as Treasurer and President of his HOA and, as a committed Christian, performed volunteer work for his church. John is survived by his wife, Carol Turner; children, Jeffrey William Turner and Jennifer Brianne Turner; stepdaughter, Amanda Workman Lowry (Frank); brother, Charles A.
