John H. Scott

John H. Scott, 83, of Denver, NC passed away peacefully on March 3, 2017 at Novant Health, Huntersville, NC. Husband, Father, Uncle, Friend…..born and raised in South Bend, Indiana, John started his newspaper career at age 11 when he took on his first paper route. 40 years later, after a transfer to Hagerstown, MD, John retired early from Schurz Communications in 1991.

After retiring, John and his wife of 62 years, Marianne, split their time between a home in Florida and a home in the North Carolina mountains until purchasing a home with their daughter and son-in-law in Denver, NC, where the four have resided since 2013.

John’s passion for cars and auto racing began as a young boy and he enjoyed many years at the Indy 500. After moving to North Carolina full-time, John’s enthusiasm turned to NASCAR, with an added bonus of his son-in-law working in that industry.

John is preceded in death by three older siblings, Thomas Slott, Daniel Slott, and Mary Ann Vanderwall.

He is survived by his wife Marianne, daughter Jennifer Kontje and son-in-law- Jim Kontje.

Whatever John did in his life, professionally or personally, he did it HIS way… and for that, we honor you, John…. Husband, Father, Uncle, Friend.

A private family celebration of John’s life will take place at a later date.
