John “Jay” Waltz Salvage, Jr., 75, of Huntersville, NC passed away on March 20, 2018.
Jay was born in Portsmouth, VA on October 6, 1942 to the late John Waltz Salvage and Elizabeth Carter Chapman Salvage Lane.
Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his step-father, Sam Lane.
Jay is survived by his wife, Christine “Tina” Salvage; son John Waltz Salvage, III and wife Christina of Columbus, Ohio; daughter, Anna M. Salvage of Plano, Texas; and grandchildren, Jack and Molly Salvage.
Jay was an Eagle Scout and had a lifelong interest in Scouting. He particularly enjoyed attending a Jamboree in the Philippines in 1959, where he first discovered his love of world travel. Later, he served as a Cub Master and Scout Leader.
He attended the University of the South (Sewanee, Tennessee), the University of Tennessee Space Institute, and the Von Karman Institute (Rhode St. Genese, Belgium). He received his Ph.D. from the University of Brussels (Belgium). As an engineer, he worked for several companies around the country and retired from Carrier Corporation (United Technologies) in 2009.
Jay enjoyed traveling, astronomy, genealogy, and wine-making. He was a member of SAR (Ohio Chapter) and the society of the Cincinnati.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home. Visitation will be prior to the service, from 10:30 – 11:00am.
