John Edward O'Meara

John Edward O'Meara of Cornelius died December 31, 2016 surrounded by loving family. He was 87 years old.

John, the son of Edward James and Alice (FitzGibbon) O'Meara, was born and raised in Madison, Wisconsin. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gladys (Smith) O'Meara, their children, Anne Elizabeth Reinert, Susan Lynn Gratz, and Timothy John O'Meara, eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

John received his BS degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1952 at the University of Wisconsin, leading to a successful career in high energy physics. He had a thirst for knowledge and a remarkable range of interests.

While highly respected for his knowledge and accomplishments, John was best known as a family man with integrity, a great sense of humor, and an unyielding commitment to the best for those he loved. Family and friends treasured his storytelling; he told them so well.

We will celebrate John's life on Thursday, January 5th at the Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home in Huntersville, with visitation at 6:00 followed by a service at 7:00.
