John Lee Murphy

January 23, 1925 — August 15, 2015

John Lee Murphy, 90 of Huntersville, NC died Saturday August 15, 2015 at his residence. Born January 23, 1925 in Corning, NY he was a son of the late Clement L. Murphy and Augusta Walters Murphy. Prior to his retirement he was a tax accountant and a member of the National Association of Cost Accountants. He was a combat medic in WWII and was awarded the Silver Star Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Asiatic Pacific Medal, World War II Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Disabled American Veterans, Advisory Board for Office of Aging in Elmira, NY and founder of Tappa Kega Beer for WWII vets attending college. Graveside services will be conducted at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery. He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Marlese Robbins of Gorham, ME, Theresa Auld and husband Aaron of Millport, NY, Timothy Murphy and wife Kim of Syracuse, NY and Patty Quillinan and husband Jim of Huntersville, NC; brother, Richard Murphy; sisters, Madeline Knapp and Joan Murphy; grandchildren, Geoffrey K Robbins, Jr. and wife Tracy, Joshua Robbins, Heather Robbins and husband Jarrett, Alan Auld, Shawn Auld and wife Amanda, Megan Auld, Charlie Murphy, T.J. Murphy, Leah Quillinan and Matthew Quillinan; great grandchildren, Clay, Tess, Lily, Emmett, Bode, Cal, Elliott, numerous extended family members and his canine companion, Colby, his sweet dog that loved on him. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Stuart and infant brother, Daniel Murphy. The family would like to thank his Hospice and Palliative Home Care of Lake Norman team ( Deb Spess, Anita Wize, Catherine Auten, Jill Cousins and Rick Felts) , the Veterans Administration and Executive Care (Christie, Matt, Todd, Amy, Cynthia, Crystal and April) for their wonderful care of Mr. Murphy in his declining health. Memorials may be made to Big Flats Senior Center, 476 Maple Street, Big Flats NY 14814. Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Huntersville, NC is assisting the family.
