John Monahan

September 21, 1923 — September 28, 2020

  John Monahan, 97, of Davidson, North Carolina died peacefully on September 28, 2020.  He was born September 21, 1923, growing up in Staten Island, New York.  He completed his education with a BBA from Manhattan College and an MBA from New York University.  He served with the 106th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron during WWII in Europe, was awarded the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal.  Also the 106th Cavalry was awarded the French Croix de Guerre with Palm. 

  He married Rosmarie Tisljar von Lentulis in Vienna, Austria and in 1947 they returned to the United States. Rosmarie and John were active members of the Mint Museum Drama Guild for 20 years.  Avid travelers, they visited thirty-four countries.  His loving wife died on February 4, 2013 after sixty-seven years of marriage.

  John was employed by Aetna Casualty and Surety Insurance as an auditor in 1949.  He retired in 1986 as Manager of Personal Accounts.  One of his many insurance accomplishments were receiving a Certified Property and Casualty Underwriter's Degree.  He was visiting adjunct instructor at Queen's College and Central Piedmont Community College, preparing students for the CPCU designation.  He was also a member of the Catholic Diocesan Schools Board of Education.  John was active in the parish of Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Charlotte and chaired their fund raising for the new church.  He was a lector at Our Lady Assumption Church and St. Therese Church in Mooresville, North Carolina for over fifty years.

  A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated October 6, 2020 at 11:00 am at St. Therese Catholic Church, Mooresville, North Carolina. 

  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Therese Catholic Church, Mooresville, North Carolina or to The Pines Resident Support Fund, The Pines at Davidson, North Carolina. Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Huntersville, NC is assisting the family of Mr. Monahan.
