John Wilson Knox, age 94, died at Summit Place in Mooresville, NC on February 27, 2014. He was born on August 7, 1919 in Huntersville, NC to John Wilson Knox, Sr. and Clara Adele Walker Knox who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his wife; Evelyn Haines Knox, sisters; Virginia Knox Long and Hilda Knox and brothers; Rufus Knox and Cloyd Knox. Mr. Knox is survived by his son; Clarence Doyle Knox (wife Frankie Knox), daughter; Megan Knox Ritchie (husband Jefferson Ritchie); granddaughter, Katherine Ritchie Ryder (husband Paul Ryder); grandson, Peter John Knox (wife Regina Knox); grandson, Andrew Ritchie and great grandchildren, Alex Ryder, Hannah Knox and Matthew Ryder. Mr. Knox is also survived by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, The Rev. Lloyd and Mrs. Doris Strehl of Santa Rosa, California and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Knox attended the Caldwell Station Elementary School and graduated from Cornelius High School. He served four and a half years in the United States Army, most of the time in Europe during World War II. He was active in the American Legion and was a Boy Scout Leader, Troop 19. He served as scout master for several years. Baptized in February 1920, Mr. Knox was a lifelong member of Bethel Presbyterian Church where he was ordained an elder in 1947 and served as Clerk of Session for 37 years. He was also active in Presbyterian Men, Charlotte Presbytery. A Memorial Service at Bethel Presbyterian Church, 19920 Bethel Church Road, Cornelius, NC will be conducted 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2014 with The Rev William Cain and The Rev. J.E Wayland, Jr. officiating. Visitation will follow the service in the fellowship hall of the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests the memorial gifts to be given to Bethel Presbyterian Church Foundation (for mission and ministry), 19920 Bethel Church Road, Cornelius, NC 28031.
