Joe Cornelius Troutman, 89 of Huntersville, NC peacefully passed into the arms of our Savior on Saturday, August 5, 2023 after a brief illness. As he met Jesus his children were by his side holding his hands.
Joe was born in Northern Mecklenburg County on May 5, 1934 to the late Floy Pressley (FP) Troutman and Merle Cornelius Troutman. He is preceded in death by the love of his life, his beautiful wife Sue Honeycutt Troutman and his brothers Roy Troutman and Dennis Troutman
Joe is survived by his son, Joe Troutman, Jr., daughter Lisa Troutman Revalee, granddaughter Kaitlyn Revalee, sister and brother-in-law Betty Jean and Claude Young, sister JoAnn Stone, nephews Mike Stone and James Young, and nieces Mary Ann Troutman, Alma Troutman, Betty Ann Grady, Alison Weathers, and Denise Carpenter.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, August 12th at Paw Creek Presbyterian Church located at 7400 Mt Holly Road in Charlotte, NC. Reverend Dr. Kitty Hahn-Campanella will officiate. A graveside service will follow in the church cemetery with visitation afterward in the church Christian Fellowship Center.
While Joe was a heavy-duty diesel mechanic for 30 years he was also known as a talented carpenter. Not only did he build his family’s home, after retiring he used his skills on numerous mission trips including trips to Kenya with several Charlotte area orthopedic surgeons where he built and repaired hospital operating and treatment rooms and trips to Mexico with Presbytery of Charlotte. Joe also joined the USA Presbyterian Disaster Assistance Team where he spent months making housing and church repairs following hurricanes and other natural disasters.
Joe was raised in Mecklenburg County and was a graduate in North Mecklenburg High School’s first class. He grew up worshiping at Williams Memorial Presbyterian Church and in the mid 60’s he and his family joined Paw Creek Presbyterian Church. At Paw Creek he was an active member where he and Sue served as church youth advisors for over a decade. Joe also served as Boy Scout Master for several years, a member of the Men of the Church, a deacon, an elder, and a participant in numerous mission trips.
Joe’s family would like to especially thank his nephew Mike for always being available to help, the Novant Hospital - Huntersville nursing staff, Sarah from Palliative Care, and hospital chaplain Rev Chandler Owens for their support and care during Joe’s recent hospitalization.
