Joan Elva Fleming, 91, passed away on April 15, 2024 in Charlotte, North Carolina, following complications from a femur fracture surgery. Joan had lived with her daughter in Mount Holly, North Carolina since 2020.
Joan was born in Caledonia, Minnesota on October 2, 1932 to Irvin and Viola (Freiberg) Holliday and grew up in La Crosse, Wisconsin. She graduated from La Crosse Central High School in 1949 and graduated from Hamline University, St. Paul, and Asbury Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1953.
Joan met the love of her life and married Myron "Mike" Fleming at Asbury Methodist Church in La Crosse, Wisconsin on January 24th, 1953. They lived in Crystal MN from 1953 to 1980 and in Minnetonka MN from 1980 to 2020. They also enjoyed 25 years of wintering in Fort Myers, Florida.
Joan started her nursing career at the Crystal Medical Clinic (Crystal MN) but soon transferred to the Hennepin County Medical Center (Minneapolis MN) where she was working when she retired.
Two of her many joys in life were going to estate sales and singing in the church choir!
Joan was a lover of life, always thinking of others and ready to give hugs. She was a true light and brought strength and hope to our family. She loved all gatherings with family and friends and will live on as a legacy of love for generations.
Along with her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her husband in 2020 and her sister, Carol Colclesser, in 1985.
Joan is survived by two children; David (Bonny) Fleming and Darla Pritchard; a brother, Charles (Judy) Holliday; four grandchildren, Alicia (Dave) Newell, Nathan Lunde, Jeremy Lunde and Leslie (Jeremiah) Buchholz; and six great-grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service livestreamed on Zoom on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at 7:00 pm Eastern Standard Time.
