Jimmy Carroll Bumgarner, Sr

Mr. Jimmy Carroll Bumgarner, Sr. 67 of Cornelius, NC died Monday October 1, 2012 at Presbyterian Hospital Huntersville. Born January 8, 1945 in Iredell County he was the son of the late James Monroe Bumgarner and Edith Christie Bumgarner. He was a member of the Cornelius Presbyterian Church, retired from Charlotte Mecklenburg School System with 30 years of service as a HVAC Specialist and after retirement was employed with Ingersol Rand for 18 years. Jimmy retired from the Cornelius -Lemley Fire Rescue Dept in 1998 after 37 years of devoted service, but never gave up the heart of a Firefighter. He started his career June 1, 1962 serving as Chief from 1970 to 1978 and was an inspiration to many young men. His devotion and love for the fire service and the Cornelius-Lemley Fire Rescue Department never wavered. He will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Thursday October 4, 2012 at Cornelius Presbyterian Church with Rev. J.E. Wayland, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Mimosa Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 49 years, Sharyon Reid Bumgarner; daughter, Kristi B. Smith and husband, Neal of Davidson, NC; sons, Jimmy (Jamey) C. Bumgarner Jr. and wife Michele of Monument, Colorado and Jeremy Bumgarner and wife Angela of Locust, NC; sister, Sue Barnette of Huntersville; Father-in-law, Hollis Reid of Locust, NC and grandchildren, Malea, Keeley, Anna, Caleb and Adam. Memorials may be made to the Leukemia Society, 4530 Park Road, Suite 240, Charlotte, NC 28209 or the Cornelius Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 279, Cornelius, NC 28031.
