Jerry Mauldin

Charles Gerald "Jerry" Mauldin, Sr., 79, of Cornelius passed away Friday, November 30, 2012 at Presbyterian Hospital, Huntersville. He was born on November 23, 1933 in Rowan County to the late Charlie Frank and Esther Belle Driver Mauldin. He was a graduate of China Grove High School and later graduated from Lenoir Rhyne College in Hickory where he majored in business. He was a guard on the varsity football squad and a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. Jerry married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Jean Poole, on May 26,1955. They had three children, Cathy Lyn Mauldin, Kelly Ann Mauldin and Charles Gerald "Chuck" Mauldin, Jr. Barbara preceded him in death in 1969. On October 18, 1969, he married Dorothy Traywick Auten from Belmont, NC and gained two wonderful stepdaughters, Jane Carolyn Auten and Glenda Kaye Auten. Jerry had a long successful career at Cummins Carolinas as a Territory Manager of Automotive Sales until his retirement in the late 90's. Jerry enjoyed football, Carolina Tar Heels basketball, Carolina Panthers, and being with his family. He especially enjoyed traveling to the NC mountains and beaches. Jerry also loved animals of all kinds and observing wildlife. His competitive spirit was obvious in his love of board games, video games, and billiards. His friends and family enjoyed Jerry's quick witted sense of humor. Jerry was much loved by his family and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Dorothy Traywick Mauldin, children of his blended family: Cathy Mauldin Armstrong and husband Steve, Kelly Mauldin Harrell, Charles Gerald "Chuck" Mauldin, Jr., Glenda Auten Burch and husband Dan, Jane Auten Mayhew and husband Roger; grandchildren, Darian and Caitlin Burch, John and Laura Armstrong, Jordan and Raina Harrell, and Walter Carter. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 3, 2012 in the Chapel of Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home, 16901 Old Statesville Rd., Huntersville, NC 28078. A visitation will be held an hour prior from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home and Cremation Services is assisting the family.
