Jerald Brooks Long

Jerald Brooks Long, 83, of Cornelius, NC passed away on January 9, 2024.  Jerald was born in Union County on October 15, 1940 to the late James Brooks Long and Ruby Richardson Long.

Jerald was an avid Tar Heel fan having graduated from UNC in 1963.  He loved his sports cars, especially Porsches, and going to car races.  He also loved his horses and other animals.  Over the years, he was involved in the Indian Guides, Boy Scouts, NC Jaycees, Kiwanis Club, and playing tennis.  He was a sweet man; soft spoken but strong.  He was friendly, fair and generous. 

Jerald spent his long career in finance and accounting, and retired as managing partner of Huggins and Company CPA firm.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother Ronnie Long (Janice).

He is survived by his longtime partner, Libby Blackwell, sons, Jerry Long and Mike Long (Karyn), and daughters, Elizabeth O’Connell (Tommy) and Madison Long (fiancé Kat), grandchildren, Avery Long (Kirsten), Emma Long (fiancé Cole), Brooks Long, Finn O’Connell and Harper O’Connell.

A private memorial will be held in Chapel Hill, NC and in Fairview, NC.
