Jeffrey Alan Kerns, Sr. was born on June 8, 1943 in Charlotte, NC. He passed away on January 1, 2017. Jeff was a very dedicated man in many areas of his life. While he was an active member in Sunset Road Baptist Church fellowshipping with others, he also was an avid car enthusiast. Friends loved to see his hot rods such as a 56 chevy or mustang in cruise ins. Jeff was also a member of the Retarded Sparks Car Club. He proudly served his country in the Vietnam War, specializing in the 502nd Helicopter Division as a crew chief and gunner. He was a recipient of the air medal with fifteen oak clusters and was also awarded the Gallentry Cross with a bronze star. Jeff's life work was devoted to helping others. After his retirement from the City of Charlotte, Jeff continued work at Coulwood Tire. When he was not working, he helped others with tinkering on cars and fixing problems.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Nancy; sons Alan, his wife Melissa, Kevin, his wife Ashley, and the daughter Heather; sister Joyce and her husband Billy; sister in law Johnnie; brother Jerry and wife Rea; grandchildren, Anna, Molly, Raye, Justice, and Rhyan.
He is preceded in death by his brother Jimmy, mother Willie Mae, and father Thomas Ray.
Memorial donations appreciated to Sunset Road Baptist Church or to the church designated NC Baptist Men and Women.
Tuesday, January 3rd, the family will receive friends at Sunset Road Baptist Church from 6:00 to 7:00pm, with the memorial service at 7:00pm.
