Jean Abernathy Taylor, a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother passed away on October 23, 2023. She was born on October 7, 1938, in Denver, NC to the late Roy Lee Abernathy and Mary Long Abernathy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Talmadge Ray Taylor; and a son, David Taylor. Ray and Jean were married for 56 years. Throughout her life, Jean was known for her loving and kind nature, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure to know her.
Jean's educational pursuits brought her to East Carolina University where she obtained a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. This laid the foundation for her work as an elementary school teacher where she dedicated herself to shaping young minds and fostering a love for learning.
In addition to her teaching career, Jean explored other professional paths including real estate and the pharmaceutical industry. Her drive for success was evident in every endeavor she pursued, but her greatest accomplishment was being the mother of her three children, Gigi, David and Alex.
Jean delighted in being a grandmother to Ashley Schweikert, Genevieve Schweikert, Marielle Schweikert, William Schweikert, and Hunter Oliver. The bond between grandmother and grandchildren was one of boundless warmth and love.
Beyond her professional and family life, Jean was an avid reader, dog lover and traveler.
