Jean Carter Jarrell, 94, passed away peacefully in her son's home on February 9, 2023, in Charlotte, NC.
Jean Jarrell was born on March 15, 1928 in Monroe, NC, to Rudolph Eaves Carter and Jewel Donnon Carter. Jean graduated from High School in Ridgeland, SC, in 1945 and went on to earn a Bachelor's degree from Limestone College in Gaffney, SC in 1949. After graduating from Limestone, she taught elementary school.
Jean married Herman A. Jarrell, Sr. in 1950 and leaves four children to cherish her memory; daughters, Nancy Jarrell and husband Ed Smail of Jackson Hole, WY, Phyllis Pike of Raleigh, NC; sons, Arnold Jarrell and wife Jackie of Charlotte, NC, Richard Jarrell and wife Yvonne Robbins of Havre de Grace, MD. She is also survived by seven loving grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Jean was a member of First Baptist Church in Huntersville, NC, and was a member of the Senior Adult Ladies Sunday School class. Jean is best remembered for her love of gardening where she spent many enjoyable hours in her backyard. She also loved music and supported the Charlotte Symphony through season tickets, volunteered with Meals on Wheels and The Samaritan House in Charlotte, and enjoyed managing her investments and reading about American history. Jean also loved education and left a scholarship in her name at her alma mater Limestone College. Jean loved to travel and was able to visit places she never dreamed she would see including Alaska, London, the Redwoods, Niagara Falls and Yellowstone.
The service for Jean Jarrell will be held on Sunday, February 12th at 3:00 pm at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home. The service will be livestreamed and may be viewed below or by clicking LIVESTREAM.
Memorial donations can be made in Jean's name to Hospice & Palliative Care, Charlotte Region.
